Therapeutic Observations and Engagements tool (TOE)
Do you want to know about how to care and support your patients who have mental health care needs, including the use of the Therapeutic Observations & Engagements (TOE) Tool?
These sessions will look at the Trust’s Therapeutic Observations and Engagements tool that is in place for patients with mental health care needs, who require observations above and beyond expected ward staffing levels. The tool promotes the safety of a patient during a period of distress, where they could be at risk of harming themselves or others. Attendees will be provided with information on how to use this tool.
Please book onto one of the following short training sessions delivered via MS Teams online, to complete your training on this tool.
Sessions will run on the below dates and times. Please use a link below to join on the day, or email the vulnerabilities team with your chosen date and a calendar invite link will be sent to you.

Mental Health Tier 2 Training Sessions
These sessions are delivered as part of the vulnerabilities study day, which can be booked via Easy Learning.
You can also book by contacting the vulnerabilities team.
The session will cover the Trust’s Tier 2 Mental Health training package and will be delivered by the Trust’s Clinical Compliance/Educator for Mental Health. They will look at signs and symptoms of common mental disorders, along with how to provide care and support for patients with mental health care needs. It will also give staff a brief overview of the Mental Health Act and how it applies to patients within an acute hospital setting.
Mental Health Awareness
The Mental Health Awareness e-learning package is aimed at all staff that have any contact with patients, and any other staff that are interested in learning more about mental health and mental illness. It will give staff a basic awareness of mental health and mental illness and how this can affect the patients in our care.
The e-learning package has been produced by Health Education England as part of their suite of learning for healthcare staff. This package aims to give staff an understanding into mental health and why it is important to have an awareness of mental health and illness when caring for patients in an acute hospital.
