Do you want to know about how to care and support your patients who have mental health care needs? Do you know the difference between mental health and mental illness? Are you able to challenge stigma around mental health?
Over the new few months, there will be two mental health training webinars taking place on a fortnightly basis, open to all patient facing staff. These include Tier 2 training sessions and a therapeutic observations and engagements tool (TOE) webinar.
Tier 2 training sessions
These sessions will cover the Trust’s Tier 2 Mental Health training package and will be delivered by the Trust’s Clinical Compliance/Educator for Mental Health. They will look at signs and symptoms of common mental disorders, along with how to provide care and support for patients with mental health care needs. This webinar will also give staff a brief overview of the Mental Health Act and how it applies to patients within an acute hospital setting.
Sessions will run on the below dates and times. Please use the links below to register your place.

Therapeutic observations and engagements tool (TOE)

The tool promotes the safety of a patient during a period of distress, where they could be at risk of harming themselves or others. Attendees will be provided with information on how to use this tool.

Mental Health Awareness
The Mental Health Awareness e-learning package is aimed at all staff that have any contact with patients, and any other staff that are interested in learning more about mental health and mental illness. It will give staff a basic awareness of mental health and mental illness and how this can affect the patients in our care.
The e-learning package has been produced by Health Education England as part of their suite of learning for healthcare staff. This package aims to give staff an understanding into mental health and why it is important to have an awareness of mental health and illness when caring for patients in an acute hospital.
