Competencies

Where do I find the competencies?

All the Trust competencies can be found on the Intranet via this link (this is an internal link and will only work if you are logged onto the Trust Network). We recommend using the search function to find the relevant policy or procedure.

What is the process for completing and submitting competencies?

The following steps will need and achieve practice competency for any of our clinical skills.

Complete the Online Learning - You are required to finish the entire online learning module just once, but you are welcome to revisit the content at any time for future reference.

Attend a Clinical Skills Session - The next step in the process is to attend an in-person clinical skills session. We offer these sessions year-round at all Trust hospital locations. You can book a session through the Easy Learning platform.

Supervised Clinical Practice - After attending the in-person clinical skills session, you must complete supervised practice in your clinical area to achieve competency. Any competent staff member can sign off on evidence of supervised practice, but a Registered clinician must sign off on the final competence assessment.

Submit Competency -Upon completing your competency documentation, you must submit it. A digital copy should be uploaded to Easy Learning, your line manager will keep a copy, and you should retain a copy for your personal records.

Am I able to use competencies obtained from a previous employer?

Yes, if you are RCN or HCPC registered you can transfer your competencies by following the Accreditation of prior experiential learning (APEL) process, the form is available for download on this page.
